If I was an employee and the leaders of the organisation, the HR team or an external agency announced a ‘culture change program’, I’d feel a bit like they were trying to change me as a person. Whereas what they’re actually trying to do is to get employees to rethink how they’re doing something or why they’re doing it.
Anyone who has seen the film knows that “the first rule of fight club is don’t talk about fight club”. We ask our clients to apply the same principle in their internal communications – the first rule of culture change is don’t call it culture change. Nothing will create resistance quicker.
